With New York Comic Con fully underway, we have extra news covering all weekend, so in case you missed it, AfterShock announced two new OGNs, Image will release “Gunning for Hits” by Jeff Rougvie and Moritat, Top Shelf Productions will publish webcomic “Belzebubs,” DC Comics announced ‘The Flash: Year One,’ Dark Horse will release the “Polar” finale, and we have full coverage of Marvel’s Next Big Thing Panel. Finally, we have the list of the Harvey Award winners.

– Nearing his one year anniversary being exclusive with DC Comics, Brian Michael Bendis’s spotlight at New York Comic Con hit the ground running with announcements. Firstly, “Pearl,” which was originally meant as a six-issue miniseries, is becoming an ongoing. Next was Bendis’s Wonder Comics line, which will focus more on younger heroes in the DC Universe. It was revealed the new protagonist of Sam Humphries and Joe Quinones’s “Dial H for Hero” is a Mexican-American boy named Miguel, and that Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld, will star in a second wave title. – During Marvel’s closed door True Believers panel at New York Comic Con, the publisher announced that “Cloak and Dagger” will be getting a second volume, coming this November. Returning writer Dennis Hopeless will be joined by new artist Francesco Mann, and the new series will be called “Cloak and Dagger: Negative Exposure,” as they will face off against Mr. Negative. Also announced at the panel was ‘Hulk in Hell,’ the second arc of Al Ewing’s “Immortal Hulk,” which will see the Hulk and Banner in, well, Hell.
– During IDW’s The Big Scoop panel at New York Comic Con, the Black Crown imprint announced writer David Barnett and artist Martin Simmonds will be doing a sequel to “Punks Not Dead,” called “Punks Not Dead: London Calling.” The first issue comes out in February. IDW also announced cartoonist Kyle Baker and writer Vita Ayala will be joining forces for the all-ages “Marvel Action: Black Panther,” which debuts January 2019.
– Kazuki Takahashi, the creator of “Yu-Gi-Oh!,” has a new project in the works, “THE COMIQ.” The manga is commemorates the 50th anniversary of Weekly Shonen Jump, telling the story of a rookie manga creator named Genkō and his secret. It will premiere in Weekly Shonen Jump in Japan on October 15. The first chapter will be 53 pages long.
– In more manga news, Dark Horse is publishing Gou Tanabe’s “H.P. Lovecraft’s At the Mountains of Madness” in two double-sized volumes (each over 300 pages long) next year. The adaptation of Lovecraft’s most celebrated novella will be translated by Zack Davisson, and the first volume will be released June 12, 2019.
– Actor Scott Wilson, who played Hershel Greene on The Walking Dead, has died at the age of 76 following complications from leukemia. Born in Georgia in 1942, Wilson made his film debut in 1967’s In the Heat of the Night, and was also best known for his roles in In Cold Blood, 1974’s The Great Gatsby, and CSI. He is survived by his wife, Heavenly, whom he married in 1977. Wilson was among several past Walking Dead cast members, including Sonequa Martin-Green and Jon Bernthal, who returned to film guest appearances in season 9.
– Meanwhile, Robert Kirkman revealed Skybound Entertainment will complete Telltale’s The Walking Dead: The Final Season. Telltale Games unexpectedly laid off its staff and closed down production just as the second episode of the video game was released last month, and now Skybound will complete the final two installments, “Broken Toys” and “Take Us Back.”
– At the Valiant Beyond panel, Andy Diggle and Alex Paknadel mentioned they will be co-writing the event comic “Incursion.” The series, illustrated by artist Doug Braithwaite, originally just had Diggle solicited as writer. “Incursion” is about a realm beyond human compensation, called the Deadside, where souls of the dearly departed linger, and monsters hide and wait to strike out from the shadows. The first issue is out in February.
– Netflix has revealed its live-action series The Umbrella Academy will debut on February 15, 2019. The series stars Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, David Castñeda, Aidan Gallagher, Cameron Britton, and Mary J. Blige, and is based on the Dark Horse comic written by Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabriel Bá. During the panel at New York Comic Con, Gerard Way stated he intends to continue the comics, saying “The goal is now to take a few months off and then dive back into the comics again,” and he has also mapped out the complete series, which will have a total of eight graphic novels. – Finally, new trailers and premiere dates for Syfy’s Deadly Class and CBS All Access’s Star Trek Discovery season 2 were released. Deadly Class will premiere on January 16, 2019, and Discovery will return to CBS All Access and Netflix the following day.
